Is a non governmental organization, (NGO), intending, through Music to Unify and Integrate the Community.
The non profit making organization Musical Association Rio Cello Ensemble , founded in 1992, has become a very active NGO in the Brazilian social life , and its main show piece is the world famous ,Rio International Cello Encounter (RICE) www.riocello.com , which has as its main objective , the promotion of great music , both classical and popular, through an annual festival , held in August, with over sixty FREE concerts , and hundreds of hours of free master classes , given by great musicians from all over the world.
OMUSIC has over one hundred friends and associates who regularly assist concerts and give donations to help provide an active participation in the musical life of Rio de Janeiro. However OMUSIC is constantly seeking for support and volunteers to help in the running and organization, especially the more bureaucratic side.
As one of OMUSIC s main objectives is to integrate into the community, OMUSIC offers free tuition to all those showing aptitude and musical talent, and especially to those who come from communities will little or no musical education. Initially, for those who apply for free tuition a, trial ten lessons is offered, and then each individual is reassessed.
OMUSIC has collaborated in the past with projects , such as the String Orchestra of Grota de Surucucu,from Niteroi, the group Acariocacamerata from Acari, the project Apprentice , in Niteroi, and has been taking part, since 2008 , in a project with the Youth Symphony Orchestra from Barra_Mansa.
OMUSIC has just received an offer of 60 (some what in need of repair ) violins from Cambridge UK, from their peripatetic violin teacher , David Ashbridge,(a regular participant in RICE) for which we are most grateful and will be soon distributed to in need music students..
OMUSIC is also producing CDs and DVDs, not only recordings documenting editions from RICE, but world premieres such as Bach in Tiradentes, with the world famous violinist Haroutune Bedelian playing all of Bach’s Partitas and Sonatas. Cds such as Pictures of Brazil, with the Rio Strings chamber orchestra, and Radames Gnatalli’s complete works for cello and piano, with David Chew and Fernanda Canaud.,and shortly to be released a DVD of Vivaldis cello sonatas with Antonio Meneses ,David Chew and Rosana Lancelotte, recorded in Baroque churches in Rio de Janeiro.
OMUSIC also is building and extensive library of music , for string orchestra and cello ensemble, as well as chamber music with over 1000 works , either written for RICE or donated to OMUSIC ,also we have an extensive CD collection, which , when we have our own musical center will become available .
OMUSIC is engaged in taking music to hospitals , such as the children’s wards at INCA (Cancer Instituite) , and intends to extend this activity, in 2010, with several famous chamber ensembles.
